Longest Podcast in History Launches in UK: 36 speakers in 36 hours
A record-breaking, 36-hour long podcast with 36 expert speakers goes live in the UK this April.
Mike Russell, co-founder of the New Media Europe conference and the UK Podcasters community, will personally host the longest continuous podcast in the world’s history right from his UK studio on April 21st to raise public awareness about the wealth of information that’s freely available from podcasts.
What Is a Podcast?
For those not familiar with the term “podcast,” it refers to any audio-program series like talk shows or music performances that listeners can download online in digital format. Podcasts have grown more popular over the last 10 years because the audience can listen to them at their leisure, they’re usually free, and they cover a much larger number of specific niches than mainstream radio stations.
World Record Breaking Long Podcast
Mike Russell is no stranger to breaking world records; the World Record Academy reported that previously Mike hosted the world’s longest radio-station broadcast on Time 106.6 FM by not sleeping for 126 hours. As a result of accomplishing this feat, he raised more than 7,000 British pounds for a charity called the Berkshire “Give a Child a Chance” organisation.
His enthusiasm for broadcasting and his experience working for some of the largest radio companies in the UK — including GMG Radio, Bauer, Global Radio and talkSPORT as a producer and presenter — have helped fuel the activities of his UK Podcasters organisation. This group provides top-rated podcasts to a growing international audience that are not published by big media companies anywhere else, sharing insights from speakers such as lawyers, nurses, public-relations specialists, marketing gurus and more.
Top Shows from Independent UK Podcasters
Some of the UK Podcasters top shows include the comedy podcast known as “Wikishuffle” and “Own It!” which is a weekly podcast for aspiring entrepreneurs & business startup founders everywhere. Other notable podcasters in the group are Pete Matthew, host of the “Meaningful Money” show that won the title of the “UK Podcast of the Year” in 2015. Additionally, “The Zone Show” about mindfulness and how to reach one’s full potential made by Tom Evans attracted an audience of 100,000 listeners worldwide.

Why Podcast?
Podcasting host Mike Russell explains his passion for what he does, and its tremendous potential to impact others, by saying:
“Podcasting is a great medium. Listening to podcasts literally changed my life; I went from working in a regular job to running two of my own profitable, online businesses as a direct result of listening to other inspirational podcasters. I want other folks to have life-changing opportunities by discovering a world of great podcasts.”
