You vs Your Business – Why Entrepreneurial Ego Matters

The more I browse social media the more I come to the conclusion that people are choosing to be somebody they are not just for the sake of maintaining the image they would like to have. Is that OK? Where is that leading us and social media in general?

Afraid to be you

I have noticed that people in similar circles will follow very similar behavioural patterns on social media. They will be positing in similar style and the similar style of content. This is where it is so easy to get fed up with all social media platforms. After a while you just question WHY the heck you sit there in the first place. I came to conclusion that people are afraid to show their true personality and to be themselves. All in the fear that they will not be accepted or worst even – they will be excluded.

What is worst? Pretending to be somebody you are not or being YOU and risking exclusion?

You vs Your Business

The biggest fear entrepreneurs have when it comes to social media is risking the reputation of their company. To certain extend you have to accept that any reckless behaviour will have consequences. If you lead a very extreme lifestyle then perhaps social media isn’t for you in the first place. But then again if that is a huge part of who you are, as long as you don’t hurt or harm anyone with your behaviour – why should you hide? As long as it is legal and you are having fan you should be free to be who you are. Just because you have a business doesn’t mean you need to become somebody else.

Beauty and The Difference

Differences attract trouble. Always! Do you remember the one odd kid in your class? Was he/she picked on? I bet yes! Because children pick on differences at the speed of light. Thankfully as adults we are able to (hopefully) also see and appreciate the other side of the story. Differences create conversations. They create talking points and require us to think about others and question our own convictions too.

The world is interesting ONLY because of the differences we see around us.

Compassion and Respect

Compassion and respect we have for others are crucial elements of this whole difference game. We shouldn’t be afraid to be who we truly are. We shouldn’t be paranoid of the effects we will have on our business as long as we live with integrity, compassion and respect. Have courage, come out of the shell and show the beauty you harbour. That uniqueness, that beauty you keep hidden is what is worth to show to the world. That is what will make your business a success, because in the end people always buy people.
