What Makes an Eye-Catching Product Logo

logo design tips

Brand awareness has become a major concern for forward-thinking entrepreneurs across the globe. They realise that to gain an edge over competition, they need to work on creating brands rather than generic businesses. Since a logo is one of the most important parts of a brand, we share with you tips and insights on how you can create a good one for your own brand.

What’s the Difference Between Company Logo and Product Logo?

A company logo is a logo that represents all the activities of a business. It conveys the mission statement and values of the business as a whole. Product logo, on the other hand, is designed for a particular product and is mainly focused on the qualities, attributes, and target market of the product itself.

Coca-Cola is a good example to understand the difference between company logo and product logo. The corporate logo i.e. Coca-Cola is known to most of us. However, many products are sold under the umbrella brand including Sprite, Minute Maid, Dasani, etc. Since these products cater to different markets and have different appeal, they carry different logos too.

Applying The Power of Colors

Do you understand the psychology of colors in marketing? If you don’t, then it’s strongly recommended that you do some research on that before you get started with the logo. This is because different colors influence us and make us feel differently. For instance, yellow and orange represent friendliness, and black is used to establish authority and class.

If you want to make your product logo pop, then it’s really important that you use the right colors. Don’t create a logo based on grayscale, it won’t attract eyeballs. What you need is a logo that’s bright and colorful to attract the audience even if it’s surrounded by many other logos.

Keep it Relevant

When you market your business on the biggest social media platforms, then you tailor your content based on the platform you are focusing on. For instance, if you post your content on LinkedIn, then you need to make it look professional and informative, and if you post on Instagram, then you need to be creative and can communicate on a lighter note. In the same way, when you create a product logo, then you have to understand the audience first. You can ask questions like “are they young or old?”, “will they appreciate humour or education?”. Answers to such questions should give you some ideas for your product logo.

Remember Simplicity

Every marketer worth their salt knows that simplicity is key to making a brand win. So, rather than making your product logo complex and overly detailed, you should try for something similar. There are many popular logos you can study to understand this principle: Nike, Apple, HP, BBC, etc.

Try 3D

If you think that your flat logo design isn’t appealing enough, then you can consider giving it a third dimension. A 3D logo may look more powerful and engaging to the target demographic. Since flat 2D logos are what most brands prefer these days, your 3D logo may look distinct and stand out easily. Of course, you must take help from a professional logo artist who knows how to create the best 3D designs.

How to Design a  Product Logo?

Now that you know what makes an eye-catching product logo the next step is to go ahead and design one. There are a few options for this. The option you choose will largely depend on your budget, time or artistic ability.

Logo Makers – These are online tools that generate logos automatically. You enter details of your business and they make your logo using AI. Logo makers are a fantastic option if you need a logo cheap and fast. However, the designs they make are not original. You can customise your logo using these tools so you have the final say in the design outcome.

Hire a Designer – This is probably the best way. Hiring a graphic designer to create your logo will deliver the best results. However, there are some drawbacks, a good designer does not come cheap, and it also takes time. From starting the process to finishing could take weeks.

Logo Design Software – I would only recommend using this approach if you have some design skills. With logo design software you can create your own logo from scratch. This is a low cost way to make a logo, but it can also take a long time. However, you have total control over the design process and the end result will be 100% in-line with your vision.

Bottom Line

Designing a logo is one thing, and making it stand out in the crowd is another. If you think that your logo isn’t giving you the desired results, then you should by all means go for a makeover. There is no point in sticking to a design that fails to attract the public. You can refer to the tips above to take the right direction. Good luck!
